چکیده

Dental caries and periodontal diseases are the most prevalent infectious diseases of the oral cavity and are responsible for more than 50% cases of tooth mortality (Okell et al 1935, Sunitha et al 2008). Dental caries is a multifactorial disease causing irreversible loss of dental tissue and microorganisms have a critical role in its etiopathogenesis, initiation and progression which has been established by many studies done worldwide (Shafer's, Kakehashi et al 1965, Sundqvist et ISSN: 2319-7706 Volume 3 Number 9 (2014) pp. 539-551 http://www.ijcmas.com

Carious Exposure versus Mechanical Exposure for MTA Pulpotomy in Primary Teeth

Introduction. The etiology of exposure determines pulpal response, making it crucial to distinguish between mechanical and carious exposure. This study clinically and radiographically evaluated the success of MTA pulpotomies conducted to treat carious and mechanical pulp exposure. Materials and Methods. This study was conducted with 50 mandibular primary molar teeth. Teeth were divided into 2 g...

Determination of endotoxins in the vital pulp of human carious teeth: association with pulpal pain.

OBJECTIVES The aims of this investigation were to determine the presence or absence of endotoxins in the pulp of symptomatic and symptom-free human carious teeth, to quantify the amount of endotoxins present, and to associate the presence of endotoxins with the acute pulpal pain. MATERIAL AND METHODS Pulpal tissue was sampled from 28 single-rooted carious teeth (15 symptomatic, 13 symptom-fre...

Comparison of the Level of Substance P and Neurokinin A in Gingival Crevicular Fluid of Sound and Symptomatic Carious Primary Teeth by ELISA

Objectives Pulpal inflammation is often associated with odontogenic pain. Dental pulp is abundantly innervated with sensory fibers encompassing neuropeptides. Neurokinin A (NKA) and substance P (SP) are important neuropeptides in the dental pulp that can cause neurogenic inflammation. Since no previous study has assessed dental pulp neuropeptides in children, this study aimed to compare the lev...

Detection and Characterization of Human Teeth Caries Using 2D Correlation Raman Spectroscopy

Background: Carious lesions are formed by a complex process of chemical interaction between dental enamel and its environment. They can cause cavities and pain, and are expensive to fix. It is hard to characterize in vivo as a result of environment factors and remineralization by ions in the oral cavity. Objectives: The development of a technique that gives early diagnosis which is non-invasi...
